AUTOPSY To Release ‘Born Undead’ DVD

Reposted from: Blabbermouth.net

Legendary San Francisco Bay Area gore grind act AUTOPSY will release a new DVD, “Born Undead”, on May 28 in Europe and June 5 in the U.S. via Peaceville Records.

The “Born Undead” DVD charters AUTOPSY’s birth, death and rebirth with an extensive documentary conducted with the bandmembers themselves, as they describe how the beast came to be, and the impact their music has had on the metal world over a span of more than 20 years. The film also documents the band’s long-awaited return to the studio and stage, and includes rehearsal footage of both new tracks and old classics for their live comeback assault. The trio of 2010 reunion shows are all featured here, with all the best classic tracks from Maryland Deathfest, Party.San Open Air festival and Hole In The Sky in Norway, where the trio of Chris Reifert, Eric Cutler and Danny Coralles was joined by Dan Lilker (NUCLEAR ASSAULT, BRUTAL TRUTH) on bass.

With hours of footage as well as extras, including the band’s promotional video for the song “All Tomorrow’s Funerals”, “My Corpse Shall Rise” and more, “Born Undead” is the ultimate set for all AUTOPSY and metal maniacs alike. The DVD also contains artwork from Kent Mattieu, who had collaborated with the band on their early classic (and often controversial) album covers.

AUTOPSY is currently working on all new material for its next album, due out late 2012/early 2013. The band states, “We can definitely promise more of what you would expect from AUTOPSY. There will be no compromise and no holding back. If you want 100% pure death metal brutality, you will certainly get it.”

“Macabre Eternal”, the first full-length album from AUTOPSY since 1995’s “Shitfun”, sold around 600 copies in the United States in its first week of release. The CD landed at position No. 67 on the Top New Artist Albums (Heatseekers) chart, which lists the best-selling albums by new and developing artists, defined as those who have never appeared in the Top 100 of The Billboard 200.

“Macabre Eternal” was recorded at Fantasy Studios in Berkeley, California and includes AUTOPSY’s first 10-plus minute song “Sadistic Gratification”.

AUTOPSY had previously decided to make an official comeback after working together on two songs for the special 20th-anniversary edition of debut album, “Severed Survival”, in late 2008; the band having originally split before the release of its fourth album, “Shitfun”, in 1995. A five-song EP, “The Tomb Within”, came out last September and saw the original trio of Chris Reifert, Danny Coralles and Eric Cutler joined on bass by Joe Trevisano (ex-ABSCESS).

AUTOPSY: ‘All Tomorrow’s Funerals’ Video Released

Reposted from: Blabbermouth.net

“All Tomorrow’s Funerals”, the new video from the legendary San Francisco Bay Area gore grind act AUTOPSY, can be seen below. The song is the title cut of the band’s new collection, which will be released on February 28 via Peaceville Records. This monstrous 22-track effort contains all of AUTOPSY’s EPs remastered by the bandmembers themselves, as well as new cuts. Everything from “Retribution For The Dead” to the now-sold-out “The Tomb Within” will be presented on CD and DLP with all original artworks, liner notes from the band and new cover art from renowned artist Matt Cavotta.

“All Tomorrow’s Funerals” track listing:

01. All Tomorrow’s Funerals (new track)
02. Broken People (new track)
03. Mauled To Death (new track)
04. Maggot Holes (new track)
05. The Tomb Within
06. My Corpse Shall Rise
07. Seven Skulls
08. Human Genocide
09. Mutant Village
10. Horrific Obsession
11. Feast of the Graveworm
12. Funereality
13. Fiend For Blood
14. Keeper Of Decay
15. Squeal Like A Pig
16. Ravenous Freaks
17. A Different Kind of Mindfuck
18. Dead Hole
19. Retribution For The Dead
20. Destined To Fester
21. In The Grip of Winter
22. Sign of the Corpse

Commented the band: “[The] few new tracks for ‘All Tomorrow’s Funerals’ came out brutal and heavy as hell. Along with the newly written songs, we did a revamped version of ‘Mauled To Death’, which is the very last of the old songs that needed a proper album quality recording. This album will also contain all four EPs, all of which are out of print, as well as a compilation track from 1991, so the grand total is 22 tracks. It’s something we’ve wanted to do for quite awhile, getting all the loose chunks together in one place rather than having them split up and added on as bonus tracks here and there. Everything has been painstakingly remastered with the band’s guidance and sounds better and more crushing than ever. And don’t worry, we didn’t get carried away and ruin anything! Combine all that with killer new cover art from Matt Cavotta and we’ve got one hell of release.”

AUTOPSY Guitarist Talks New Album, Forthcoming DVD

Reposted from: Blabbermouth.net

Roger Höglund of Sweden’s Musikenimittliv recently conducted an interview with guitarist Eric Cutler of the legendary San Francisco Bay Area gore grind act AUTOPSY. A couple of excerpts from the chat follow below.

Musikenimittliv: You have a compilation album coming out this February, “All Tomorrow’s Funerals”, that includes your EPs and stuff, but also new material. Can you tell me something about the new material and are they songs that didnt fit on “Macabre Eternal” or new stuff?

Eric: The new record, “All Tomorrow’s Funerals”, is a collection of all the EPs and rarities. It also includes four new tracks that are not related to “Macabre Eternal”. All completely new skull-crushing AUTOPSY, just like what you would expect! We recorded at Fantasy Studios again with Adam Munoz and the band mastered the new songs as well as remastered all of the old songs. We didnt mess with too much in remastering — mostly boosting up the volume to match. We feel good about it and I think you will like it.

Musikenimittliv: What’s your take on death metal these days? Do you have any thoughts about new bands out there?

Eric: Wow, there are so many bands that kill! We have benn playing festivals and seeing a ton of brutal bands, too many for me to list here. A few have to be IN SOLITUDE, FUNERUS, TORN FROM THE WOMB. There is a lot of bad music out there, but metal is definitely strong as hell!

Musikenimittliv: You have the “Born Undead” DVD coming out this year. What material is on it and when will it be released?

Eric: Ah, good question. We hope to have it out by May. There is a documentery on it that shows the complete history of the band, with interviews of the band and other bands. There is footage from different time peroids and clips from rare shows. A second DVD disc will contain live concerts after the reforming of the band. Concerts include Maryland Deathfest, Hole In The Sky in Norway and Party.San in Germany. Also included will be some of the Slaughter By The Water show in San Francisco 2011.

Musikenimittliv: AUTOPSY have probably the most respect out there amongs death metal bands. How does it feel to have that much respect from fans and other bands?

Eric: We appreciate all of the love, and we give it right back. There are so many that are important to the scene being what it is and we are humble to be a part of this. When you stay true to being brutal and keeping the same direction and sound, you can keep it going. If others stay on board, then you are blessed.

Musikenimittliv: You guys have begun writing a new album. How does the material come along, how does it sound and can you say when u plan to release it?

Eric: We hope to record it before this year ends and have it out early 2013. I’ve been told by a friend that it sounds more raw and crazy! Hahahahaha, how that is, I do not know! I feel that it is another step in the staircase of madness that is AUTOPSY.
